Replacement gate at Compton Martin Ochre Mine

The gate at Compton martin Ochre Mine has needed replacement for some time, after the old gate rusted away.

This has now been completed, so please remember to bring a CSCC key if you are visiting.

Notification of CSCC AGM

The AGM will be a Zoom meeting on the Friday 13th May 2022.

Nominations for officer posts must be received by the Secretary no later than 15th March.

Motions for amendment to the Constitution must be sent to the secretary by the 18th March.

Rockfall In Rhino Rift - Update

Fallen Rock And Through Bolt by Andrew Atkinson Following the email yesterday regarding reports of loose rock in Rhino Rift, Andrew Atkinson, CSCC’s Equipment & Techniques Officer, supported by Sioned Haughton, visited the cave at the request of CCC Ltd on the evening of Monday 17th January.

Following the remedial work undertaken, the cave is open for trips.

Waterwheel Swallet Closed Following Break-in

Waterwheel has recently been broken into and the gate vandalised.

Repairs to the gate will be carried out as soon as possible. Until the gate is replaced the cave is not available for trips.

Singing River Mine Access

Singing River Mine by Paul Stillman Following a change in ownership and landscaping work, the entrance to Singing River Mine is now located in a private garden.

Arrangements for future access are under discussion and will be available as soon as possible.

In the meantime all visits should be avoided.

CCC Ltd: Rhino Right Hand Route Rebolted

After a long day’s work last weekend, the Right-Hand Route in Rhino Rift has been rebolted using BCA approved IC resin anchors.

CCC Ltd: WARNING - Rockfall in G.B. Cave - Update

ROCKFALL IN THE AREA OF THE WATERFALL CLIMB, GB CAVERN

Following the rockfall notified and publicised in early February, a further inspection trip was scheduled for 6 April, following the relaxation of covid restrictions. On 5th April, a report was received of a further fall. The inspection trip comprised Linda Wilson (Conservation Officer), Dave King and Graham Price (CCC Directors). A large area of the side of the passage above the big steps on the left hand side (when travelling into the cave, heading downstream) has come away, resulting in a massive, unstable talus cone of boulders, large rocks, smaller shattered rocks and mud that now completely covers the steps almost to the base of the ledge in the middle of the climb. Access to caves in Cheddar Gorge

Cheddar Caves Logo Further to the decision by Longleat to close the show caves and suspend their operations in Cheddar, they have notified CSCC that with immediate effect caver access to all caves on Longleat property which includes the whole south side of the Gorge, is no longer available. This includes all caves and digs, and affects sites such as Reservoir Hole, Spider Hole, Goughs Cave, Long Hole, Great Oones etc …
